Grand Central Hotel champagne bar gets a makeover.

The iconic Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow has given their champagne bar a bit of a makeover.

Nice wee job for a Friday morning with former Miss Scotland and TV presenter, Jennifer Reoch.

Love this iconic Champagne Bar with all it’s history and the old style décor mixed in with a blend of 21st century luxury.

Great shoot photographing the refurbished bar where the likes of Frank Sinatra and Fred Astaire enjoyed a wee tipple!

Shadows of War Roger Fenton’s Photographs of the Crimea

A great exhibition focusing exclusively on Roger Fenton’s pioneering photographs of the Crimean War, taken in 1855. Fenton was already an accomplished and respected photographer when he was sent by the publishers Agnew’s to photograph a war that pitched Britain, France and Turkey as allies against Russia.  Arriving several months after the major battles were fought in 1854, Fenton focused on creating moving portraits of the troops, as well as capturing the stark, empty battlefields on which so many lost their lives.

At The Queen’s Gallery, Palace of Holyroodhouse until November, well worth a visit.

The remotest place on mainland UK!

I just love my job, I get to photograph so many different people and locations form all walks of life, I always find it very interesting getting an insight and knowledge in to so many different industries.

I would never get to so many places through my work and when an email dropped in for a shoot described as “the remotest part of the UK” I jumped at the chance…and the client wasn’t exaggerating!

I drove to Mallaig then crossed on a private ferry to Knoydart…one pub (which opens when the landlord can be bothered) and a school with 14 pupils!
Fantastic shoot with a real sense of being out in the wilderness, will have to go back at somepoint…

The first part of District 10 in Dundee is now occupied by various creative businesses.

Part of the Waterfront development, which will also house the new V&A.

My favorite pix 0f 2014

It’s been another great year, now in my 14th year as a freelance photographer…wow can’t believe where the time has gone!
Over the years I have been privileged to photograph some amazing things, meeting some great people and traveling to places I would never think of going to, all with there own individual challenges but I would not swap my job for anything else!
I have put together a few of my favorite images from 2014, I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them! They all tell a different story and mean so many different things to me.

A day with Tom Daley

Spend a day recently photographing the very hard working Olympic diver Tom Daley.
Who was in Glasgow to promote the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, which he will be competing in.

Certainly got plenty of mileage from him!

Early start for a Sunday, 8am at the Finnieston Crane on Glasgow’s River Clyde where Tom was about to abseil off!
Right Tom up you go and abseil down, if I don’t get the pix I need, would you mind doing it all again…luckily for Tom I managed to get all the images in one take!

Next up it was over to The Old Fruitmarket where there was a good few hundred screaming teenagers waiting for him.
A lucky few who had won a competition got to meet him, and ask a few questions.

And not forgetting the obligatory if a celeb comes to Scotland make sure you get them in a kilt shot!

Tom Daley/Glasgow 2014

I had been pestering his PR all day about doing a shot under the Kingston Bridge, as she was from London she had no idea what I was ranting on about. There is a great mural under the bridge with a swimmer and diver so managed to persuade them to stop at the traffic lights for five minutes.
I got there half an hour before to set up on a traffic island (amazing how many people you know who drive past then text, was that you I passed looking like an idiot with lights, stands and camera, lurking under a bridge).
So glad it all worked out and I got a great image of Tom with the mural in the background, but only when the lights turned red!

Next it was over to the Daily Record building for Tom to do a spot of guest editing with the help of some local school children.

Last shot Tom was trying his hand at some bowls at The Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre which will host the Commonwealth Games 2014 Lawn Bowls competitions.

Enough Food For Everyone “IF” campaign

I was commissioned to cover the launch of a great cause today, (always nice to cover something worthwhile) The Enough Food For Everyone “IF” campaign brings together more than 100 organizations and was launched in Glasgow today.
This is a joint campaign with Save the Children, Oxfam and a host of other charities.

Enough food for everyone, IF.

With so many different charities involved with this campaign there was a lot of hanging around on a cold Glasgow street.
But after two patient hours it got started and Scottish actor Atta Yaqub (Ae Fond Kiss) was a pleasure to work with as usual.
My only concern at this time of year, is the light goes very quickly in the afternoon, but managed I to get a fantastic set of images for my client.
Enough food for everyone, IF.

Lets hope it raises lots of money and awareness for a great cause.
