National Selfie Day
Its National Selfie Day…yes really its a thing!
Love them or hate them their here to stay, I was recently asked to by a client to write a short brief on how to shoot the perfect selfie in a lift for #nationalselfieday.
With the help of model @iamrebeccadonaldson at @apexhotels who was a great sport and in typical selfie fashion I shot lots of pix to get the right one!
Capturing the perfect shot of yourself in a lift is big business there’s 400,000 tagged posts alone on Instagram, With #liftselfie, so the brief was to shoot in a lift @apexhotels.
Here’s my tips on how to elevate your selfie (#elevatorselfie ) …
1…Make sure your eyes are in focus, this makes such a difference when viewing your selfie, smile like you mean it!
2…hold your Smartphone above, (chin down camera up) this gives you a more flattering look and defines the jaw line, try lots of different poses and angles to find your best look…practice makes perfect!
3…Light is everything in photography! Try to shoot in diffused natural light, no direct as this will throw unflattering shadows on your face and don’t use the flash as this is to harsh for a nice selfie. The “golden hour” (during sunset and sunrise) is best for outdoors when the light is at it’s most beautiful.
4…Be mindful of your background, the best selfies have really interesting ones or a nice plain simple one and watch out for photo-bombers!
5…Get to know your camera, try using the self timer for a more professional looking portrait and find a good app like snapseed or lightroom and don’t over edit!!
Lunch with an Old Bag!
This is my sixth year photographing Lunch with an Old Bag and it just gets bigger and better!
LWOB is an annual charity fundraiser on behalf of the Prince’s Trust Scotland at Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh courtesy of owner James Thomson OBE and raised a whopping £706,593!
The event was attended by a host of stars, including disco legends Sister Sledge, who doesn’t remember dancing to “we are family” and “lost in music” still sounded as good today and brought back some great memories from when I was a teenager at the local disco!
Great to see the gorgeous Clare Grogan from Gregory’s Girl.
Hosted by Des Clark who does an amazing job every year.
I missed out on seeing comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli at the Fringe so this was a great surprise and he didn’t disappoint!
The Prince’s Trust Ambassadors Ball
The Prince’s Trust Ambassadors Ball
Another great fundraising night by the Prince’s Trust to celebrate some of their young ambassadors, an elegant black tie event with auctions, fashion show by Basler and a special performance by 2011 x-factor runner-up Marcus Collins.
The event was held at the luxurious Grand Central Hotel Glasgow, having shot a few different events a this wonderful hotel I know what to expect in the way of the lighting set up they use and also access to the stage areas and any other last minute requests that always crop up on the night!
First up after dinner was the fashion show by Basler, a great collection of evening wear.
Just before Marcus Collins preformed I set up to do a quick portrait of him in the corridor as he was going in to the Ball Room.
Room service anyone!
Usually I would get this kind of job in August, during the Edinburgh International Festival!
Launch of a lovely new hotel in Edinburgh, Hotel Indigo…not much to see from the outside but great spacious contemporary rooms inside (I get to see a lot of hotel rooms in my job!).
So the hook is book a room, order room service and on the menu, an award-winning comedian in Janey Godley will come up with your club sandwich and do a 10-minute performance in your room!
10 minutes of Glaswegian humour at it’s best!
Best way to start a Monday morning.
