Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day…
get your Christmas jumpers looked out for Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.
Sports personality Judy Murray and celebrity chef Tom Kitchin donned their Christmas jumpers for the cause.
4am start with Tom Daley!
4am start with Tom Daley, Nile Wilson and Denise Lewis…which really means up at 2am to drive the 70 miles to the location, the glamorous life of a freelance photographer!
But a great morning shooting with Tom, Nile and Denise who were on top form even at that time, I love an early start especially in the summer as you always get a great sunrise even in Scotland.
Shooting at that time of the morning has it’s benefits and challenges, on the plus side shooting a portrait outside with early morning light (golden hour) is fantastic but freezing the action of Tom jumping is a bit of a challenge, high iso and a fast shutter with shallow depth of field (for all you guys who keep asking what the tech is) the shot above was shot at iso 1250/500sec at f2.8 on a Nikon d4s with a 16-35mm lens.
Great also to work with Nile and Denise.
As always a great shoot is a team effort with a lovely client and big thanks to Haven who were hosting us all…and supplied us with coffee and a fantastic breakfast!
Best of September
It’s been a very busy month, with lots of early start and late nights sometimes on the same day…
I’ve put together a few of my favorite images from September, I’ve picked them for various reasons, for the technical challenges to weather, being in the right place and some just because I had a such a nice time on the shoot.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them…

TV Game Show – And They’re Off!
I had a great day recently shooting a new game show special – And They’re Off! with TV presenter Ore Oduba winner of Strictly Come Dancing.
Very interesting to see how a TV show is filmed and all comes together, long day for everyone, change of audiences and contestants to film four episodes in one day!
As a photographer technically it’s a bit of a challenge with lighting and keeping out of the way of the camera teams and crew while filming is going on, as well as the sound issues from my camera, you have to be a bit of an invisible man at these types of shoots not to be seen and defiantly not heard but still deliver a very high quality set of images.
All in all a great day and Ore was great to work with!
Glasgow 2014 volunteer launch
Your chance to become part of the Glasgow 2014 commonwealth games!
Prospective volunteers have from today until 28 February to apply for a Games role which will not only see them be part of history – Glasgow 2014’s volunteers will be the biggest peace-time deployment of volunteers for a common cause Scotland has ever seen – but will also see them having the time for their lives.

Scotland’s Olympic and Commonwealth badminton star Susan Egelstaff launched the drive for Glasgow 2014 volunteers with the help form Olympic boxing Gold medalist – and the winner of BBC TV’s Superstars – Anthony Joshua.

Colin & Justin – style guru’s ?
Then my next job with Glasgow’s self-proclaimed style guru’s Colin & Justin…but not today wearing those jumpers. As usual arrived early to scout out a good location for the shoot, then went off and bought a few Christmas props for the boys to wear.
This was in aid of Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, which takes place on Friday 14 December. Over 6,000 people from schools and workplaces across Scotland have already signed up to donate £1 to wear their winter woolies on the day for the charity.
Colin & Justin were true professionals and a pleasure to work with, the only problem I had was editing the images, just a shame I had to leave so many out.
The Prince’s Trust Ambassadors Ball
The Prince’s Trust Ambassadors Ball
Another great fundraising night by the Prince’s Trust to celebrate some of their young ambassadors, an elegant black tie event with auctions, fashion show by Basler and a special performance by 2011 x-factor runner-up Marcus Collins.
The event was held at the luxurious Grand Central Hotel Glasgow, having shot a few different events a this wonderful hotel I know what to expect in the way of the lighting set up they use and also access to the stage areas and any other last minute requests that always crop up on the night!
First up after dinner was the fashion show by Basler, a great collection of evening wear.
Just before Marcus Collins preformed I set up to do a quick portrait of him in the corridor as he was going in to the Ball Room.
Launch of 2014 Commonwealth Games mascot
The official mascot of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has been unveiled at BBC Scotland’s headquarters in Glasgow.
Clyde made a grand entrance at the unveiling ceremony, zip-sliding through the middle of BBC Scotland’s headquarters at Pacific Quay, watched on by a few hundred guests who had all packed in to the BBC HQ.
12-year-old Beth Gilmour from Cumbernauld won a nation-wide competition to design the 2014 mascot, pictured here with Clyde.
After watching the rehearsals last night with stand-ins, it was great to see it all come alive, and what a spectacular launch it turned out to be!
